If the key vehicle details are not clearly readable in English, get a reliable translation before sending the V55/5 pack.
Official position
GOV.UK requires original foreign registration evidence for imported vehicles and uses it to establish manufacture date and identity. The public guidance does not give one universal translation rule for every country, but DVLA must be able to verify the vehicle details.
What to do
Translate documents where the VIN, first registration date, manufacture date, keeper, title status or export status is not obvious.
Keep the original document with the translation; do not send only the translated copy.
Use a professional or certified translation for high-risk documents such as Japanese export certificates.
Check that the translation preserves the VIN or chassis number exactly.
