Submission & DVLA pack

What if I forgot to sign the V55/5?

Reviewed 2026-07-10

Short answer

Expect DVLA to reject or return it. V355/5 says DVLA will not accept applications that are not signed or filled in properly.

Official position

The official V355/5 guidance says DVLA will not accept applications that are not signed or filled in properly. It also tells applicants to sign and date the declaration at the bottom of the application form.

What to do

1

Check the declaration before posting the pack.

2

If you already posted it unsigned, wait for DVLA to return or contact you, then correct it promptly.

3

When resending, recheck payment, originals, identity evidence and date-sensitive insurance or MOT evidence.

4

Keep copies of what you sent so you can rebuild the pack quickly if needed.

Common mistakes

  • Completing every technical box but missing the declaration.
  • Signing a draft copy and posting a different unsigned copy.
  • Resending only the signature page when DVLA has asked for a full corrected pack.
